TEXAS GENERAL MRT RENEWAL

Texas MRT renewal.
Know what counts.

What you need

  • 24 CE hours during a standard 24-month registration period
  • At least 12 formal Category A or A-plus hours
  • HHSC-approved human-trafficking prevention training before each renewal

What’s included

  • 24.75 ARRT Category A credits
  • Radiography, radiation safety and patient care topics
  • One open-book exam and a certificate after you pass

Human-trafficking prevention training is separate and is not included in this course.

Online Category A courses can count; Texas does not require an in-person class.

Short initial registration periods, temporary certificates and approved exemptions follow different CE rules. Check your TMB renewal instructions; human-trafficking prevention training has its own requirement.

Before you renew

  1. Check your renewal dates. Your Texas registration period and ARRT biennium may differ. If you renewed your ARRT certificate during your Texas renewal period, those CE credits may count toward Texas renewal. The human-trafficking course is still required.
  2. Complete the required training. Choose an HHSC-approved human-trafficking prevention course . HHSC lists a free option. This training can count toward your CE total.
  3. Report your CE before renewal. Renewals on or after September 1, 2026 require CE Broker reporting. A free Basic account is available. Follow the TMB reporting instructions , upload your completion documents, and confirm your status shows Complete before renewing. Report your Lead Apron CE certificate yourself.

This guide covers general MRT renewal. Limited MRT and non-certified technician requirements differ. Check the Texas Medical Board requirements and Rule 186.19 for your license before you renew.
