NEW YORK RADIOGRAPHER RENEWAL

New York rad tech renewal.
Know what counts.

What you need

  • Current New York registration to continue practicing
  • For ARRT registrants: current credential verification attached to your New York renewal
  • Separate renewal of your ARRT credentials and New York registration

What’s included

  • 24.75 ARRT Category A credits
  • Radiography, radiation safety and patient care topics
  • One open-book exam and a certificate after you pass

Use these credits toward your ARRT CE, then complete your ARRT and New York renewal steps.

New York’s four-year CE rule

Under Rule 89.20 , a full four-year registration requires 48 CE credits, completed at any time during the 48 months before the renewal period starts. Shorter registration periods require the equivalent of 12 credits per year.

DOH accepts current ARRT credential verification as proof that the CE requirement is met. If you renew using individual CE certificates, confirm course and accreditor acceptance with DOH. This 24.75-credit course alone does not cover a full 48-credit cycle.

Before you renew

  1. Check both sets of dates. New York registration can last up to four years. Your ARRT renewal and CE deadlines follow a separate schedule. Check your registration certificate and ARRT account.
  2. Keep your ARRT credentials current. ARRT’s standard biennial CE requirement for radiographers is 24 Category A or A-plus credits. Complete and report your CE by your ARRT deadlines. Approved online and self-study activities can count. See the ARRT CE requirements .
  3. Attach your credential verification. Print your current result from ARRT Verify Credentials and attach it to your New York renewal. Follow the renewal application’s payment and return instructions. DOH normally mails the application about 60 days before expiration. For a replacement, call 518-402-7580.
  4. Save your completion records. Download your certificate and keep your own copy. ARRT requires proof of CE participation for five years under its CE documentation rules . The same self-study activity cannot earn repeat credit within one ARRT biennium.

This guide focuses on New York radiographers using current ARRT credentials. Nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, contrast-injection authorization, CQR and other specialty requirements need separate consideration. Confirm your renewal instructions in the New York DOH FAQ .
